The venue

The venue is the local community hall, the Russell Community Centre, located on the Roadford side of the village. It is a community owned hall, not a profit making organisation, so as such is more like the village hall in Consiton than the Archaeoscope in Bouillion. However, unlike Coniston, it is a modern building and well provided with power points and telecommunications, especially for a small village on the edge of Europe.

We have spoken with a representative of the community council about the hall. It is available in the last week of August and the council are willing to let us use it. They haven't been able to give a confirmed price as they make decisions on a case by case basis, but have specified that a not for profit event would be treated fairly and that their rates are generally IEP5 per hour which would work out at about ¤1000 for the week.

In terms of facilities, there is ISDN into the building. The main hall is about the size of a badminton court and has six double powerpoints spread throughout. Trestle tables are available with the hall, so this part of the room is the obvious place for most of the machines to be laid out. In addition to the main hall, there are two smaller meeting rooms which would be suitable for smaller bof sessions. Since we probably wouldn't need both of these smaller rooms, it would be nice to leave on free for the community. Finally, with reference to more general facilities, there is a kitchen area, complete with microwave, and disabled access toilets in both ladies and gents.
