LBW Beer

There are two possibilities for a special Tux beer for this Linuxbierwanderung.

Option 1 is the quickest and cheapest - one of the Biddy Early Brews of our choice rebottled with a special design. This can be done on a sale or return basis and needs only a few weeks notice.

Option 2 - a special brew. More time, higher cost and we need to provide a recipe. Let your voice be known on the mailing list.

Beer in Ireland

Beer in Ireland, unlike Belgium, is mainly on tap. Even non beer drinkers will have heard of stout in it's most famous incarnation, Guinness. Since Clare is further to the south than Dublin, there is likely to be a better choice even with the commercial brands with Murphy's and Beamish giving Guinness some competition. Unlike the city, the barmen will also have a bit more time to pour your pint :-)

Aside from stout, a few ales are also readily available and you are probably familiar with at least one of them from export. Caffrey's (smooth and light), Smithwicks (a dark ale by Guinness, formerly known as Kilkenny on the continent) and Kilkenny (creamy, malty and red).

If you really feel you must, Carlsberg, Heineken, Millers and all that other pale fizz can also be purchased.

But it wouldn't be a Linuxbierwanderung without something a bit special beerwise, and a short trip away from Doolin in the small village of Inagh is the Biddy Early Brewery, Ireland's first pub brewery. Their specialities include Black Biddy (Fruity Irish stout), Blonde Biddy (European Pilsner style lager), Red Biddy (Sweet Irish ale) and Real Biddy (Cask conditioned ale). They also have brewed a few specials in the past, so maybe we could persuade them to brew up a Tux ale <g>.

And if your taste runs to something a little stronger, beer isn't the only drink you can use malts in...

There are three pubs in the village and frequently you'll find a session, even in the depths of January! Price of a pint of plain is about ¤3. Click on the thumbnails for a larger picture. McGann's pub also has accomodation above it :)
